Mr David Hill

Mr David Hill was until very recently a substantive NHS ENT Consultant in Ysbyty Gwynedd, a post to which he was appointed in 2008.  He was born in London, and graduated from the Medical School of the University of London, where he attended both University College and the Middlesex Hospital.  He had most of his post-graduate training in North London, as well as a few posts in the South of England. In addition to working in North Wales and London, he has worked as a Consultant in Northern Ireland, Yorkshire, and Cardiff. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for over thirty years.

He also had an active role for around ten years as a medical academic in Bangor, both as a medical research supervisor, and as a national administrator for ENT Research in Wales.  He continues to attend UK and international conferences, he has presented his research in major European conferences twice in the last five years, and he has a wide-ranging and up-to-date knowledge of ENT.

As an NHS Consultant, Mr Hill had a wide-ranging practice, encompassing all aspects of ENT, in adults, in children, and in the elderly. Mr Hill is able to advise and treat all aspects of ENT conditions (except cancer treatment), but his particular interest is in Rhinology.  Rhinology is concerned with disorders of the nose, both as a blocked airway, as an organ of smell, and as the site of nasal allergy (hay fever and similar conditions) and inflammatory nasal polyps. Some patients may require CT or MRI scans for further investigation, and these can be arranged, explained, and shared with the patient.

In addition to the nose, Mr Hill is able to provide expert evaluation of symptoms of the tonsils, the neck and throat, and of voice and swallowing problems.  He is able to use an endoscope to look safely and easily into the deeper parts of the nose and throat, and obtain digital pictures which he can explain and share with patients. He can also arrange and explain ultrasound investigations of neck and thyroid lumps.

Mr Hill can diagnose and treat most conditions of the ear, including external ear lumps and deformities, ear infections, middle ear fluid (‘glue ear’), cholesteatoma and inner ear conditions such as deafness, dizziness and tinnitus. Most, but not all, patients with ear symptoms will need a hearing test, and this can be arranged by the patient with the help of the clinic.  Some ear tests can also be performed in the clinic setting.

Mr Hill has learned to speak good conversational Welsh, and can conduct consultations in the language of your choice.  He has many local interests and connections, and is certainly interested to hear each individual’s clinical story.

Appointments can be arranged for an initial consultation at a cost of £250, and £200 for a follow-up.  Further costs may be incurred for the use of a single-use digital endoscope, and these will be explained in the booking process.
