Dr Mark Knights – Diving Medical Referee

MB ChB DIMC DMCC MRCP FRCA
GMC 4702739
UKDMC Registered

Dr Mark Knights is a UK Diving Medical Committee (UKDMC) Medical Referee who provides medical assessments and advice for recreational scuba divers.

Mark is a consultant anaesthetist with more than 25 years of clinical experience. His background includes critical care, prehospital emergency medicine with Wales Air Ambulance, and medical support for remote and offshore operations. He currently works as a Fleet Doctor, supporting research and private vessels operating around the world.

He has completed DMAC Level 1 and Level 2D training in diving and hyperbaric medicine and holds the Diploma of Immediate Medical Care from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His broad clinical experience is particularly helpful when assessing divers with medical conditions, previous surgery or prescribed medication.

Mark is also an active recreational scuba diver, with BSAC, PADI and SDI qualifications including Advanced, Rescue, Deep and Nitrox. This gives him a practical understanding of the diving environment and the concerns divers may have about their medical fitness.

His approach is friendly, thorough and individualised. Wherever possible, he aims to help people dive safely by understanding the person, their health and the type of diving they plan to undertake—not simply applying a checklist.

Mark can undertake routine diving medicals and more detailed assessments for divers whose health history requires review by a UKDMC Medical Referee.
